Communicating with illustrations can convey layers of meaning that are difficult to describe with words, and as a business, Coretext values quality illustration as a means of helping to articulate complex issues.
It is particularly valuable to have someone like our creative director Tim Claeys in the Coretext team. While his focus in recent years has been on graphic design services for our clients, Tim is also an award-winning and internationally recognised illustrator. As such he has been appointed judge of the Science and Technology category in the 2020 World Illustration Awards in London.
The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation is one of our science-manager clients that supports the use of illustrations, commissioning them to accompany articles in its quarterly magazine Fish.
This has given us the chance to incorporate work from leading Australian illustrators into the publication, including the work above from Sonia Kretschmar, which featured with the article 'From wetline to online the digital markets take shape' in Fish, September 2019. Work from Sonia also brought to life the cover of the December 2018 issue (below left) while Toni Horne provided a futuristic approach for December 2019 issue (below right).
The World Illustration Awards are coordinated by the Association of Illustrators (AOI), the professional body for illustration in the UK.
Established in 1973, the AOI champions illustrators and the illustration industry with education, promotion and campaigning to achieve a thriving industry.
